Summertime Sadness

Summer is by far my favorite season of the year [same girl, same] – I love the heat (hate to sweat but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make). Beach trips, pool days, rooftop bars, [my sister’s birthday…] it can’t get any better. While this summer started off with some hope of normalcy, unfortunately, it ended with the emergence of Delta and we were back in our 2020 mindset. Luckily, I got to fit in some fun stuff before everything went crazy again…

Time with Family

Thanks to my WFH situation, I was able to spend a month home in NC to enjoy time with my parents and some freedom for my pup. Being a city dog, seeing him enjoy his first time off leash in grass was amazing (and comical). Rolling around aimlessly in the grass seems to be his favorite thing – and also leads to more frequent baths.

I have lived close to my parents my whole life, and the last few years being away has really shown me how to appreciate the time we all have together as a family. Though the house is a little chaotic when Big Sis and the kids get in town [kids+pup are a handful], these are times that will be few and far between moving forward.

Beach Trips

What’s better in the summer than some time at the beach? What’s better than time at the beach with friends? I was lucky to enjoy a few beach weekends [cough, weeks, cough] with friends out on the Carolina coasts this summer. Being that it was pre-delta we were even able to snag some time out at restaurants and beach bars and let me tell you – it was nice to feel like a real human on vacation again.

Did I wish I was in Hawaii and not Myrtle Beach? [HA two VERY different places] Probably, but honestly who cares – I was with my best friends and we had the absolute best time escaping reality with each other. No complaints here!

Rooftops Galore

What says NYC summer better than a rooftop bar? There are so many, and so little time. Prioritizing outdoor dining and keeping a good vibe sounds tough – but not in the greatest city in the world. Some of my favorite picks below:

230 Fifth Rooftop
Good vibes – tons of seating and nice views in the heart of Flatiron. Not to mention, very tasty Frosé. [never gets old]

Haven Rooftop
Yeah, Times Square isn’t where any of us want to spend our time… however, this rooftop atop the Sancuary Hotel is a perfect shaded escape from the summer sun. Tasty drinks and a great atmosphere. [you said Times Square and I tuned out…]

Catch Rooftop
If you want a scene, I would recommend Catch Rooftop. Make sure to get a reservation – because weekend nights this line can get long. Snag a table and party the night away. [honestly dinner is great too… do both!]

The Greens at Pier 17
Day drinking at its peak – The Greens give you a private mini lawn to enjoy with 8 of your friends [where was my invite?]. It has the perfect energy for a sunny summer day and has great views of the Brooklyn Bridge. Reserve your lawn and enjoy your Sunday Funday.

Though I am very sad summer is over, I am looking forward to some fall sweater weather.

What were you all up to this summer? I’d love to hear! Leave your fave summer stories in the comments!
