What is a sistacation you ask, well it’s simple, a sister vacation (duh!) that happens annually (…until one of you has kids and has to postpone in the years you are pregnant). This is something we started to do a few years ago; an early winter trip to a warm destination where we could relax, drink, dance, catch up, and just spend time together as sisters.
If you have a sister, you understand the bond. It’s a special kind of roller coaster. You know, the ones that have the big drops, and the upside down loops, AND the going in reverse moments? For those who don’t have a sister, I’m sure I didn’t make it sound appealing, but trust me – the downs are well worth the moments you have going up, and going backwards means you were going in the right direction at one point. (now I have motion sickness.)
In the past we’ve done some exciting trips which weren’t too far. We wanted to share the details around those trips for you to then replicate with your own sister, or a girlfriend who is that sister you cherish.
Puerto Rico
For a good place to sleep when you’re not out and dancing: VRBO has many options for both smaller condos or beautiful ocean view homes to relax and rest. The Condado Vanderbilt hotel has the best of both worlds, relaxation options and a lively lobby and pool.
You can’t go wrong by visiting Calle San Sebastian in Old San Juan, tons of bars and restaurants with lively music fill the streets. Get dropped off and enjoy the area. For more of a pre/post dinner cocktail check out Casa de Montecristo or if you’re into a beer bar La Taberna Lúpulo is your scene.
For daytime adventures you can visit and take in the views from the old fort, Castillo San Felipe del Morro. Near the fort, within walking distance, are many bars and restaurants to rest before you reset.
Los Angeles, CA
What’s not to love about LA. Glam, bars, beaches, shopping, great restaurants and always perfect people watching. We stayed at Kimpton Hotel Palomar Los Angeles Beverly Hills. This put us in a great spot and within driving distance from everywhere we wanted to be.
Food and drink were our vibe, we spent time at The Bungalow ad EP & LP Rooftop in the evenings and did our fair share of (window) shopping during the day on good old Rodeo Drive. The restaurant scene is ever changing and evolving, here is a great list to see where you should pop in to eat and celeb stalk.
West Palm Beach, FL
We stayed at the Hilton West Palm Beach which was a fabulous hotel with an awesome pool. Though not on the beach, it was walking distance to many great bars and restaurants in the downtown area.
One of our fave stops was RH Rooftop which was just across the street from the hotel. If bar hopping is more your vibe, Clematis St offers a ton of options to pop in and check out.
You can’t go to West Palm Beach without visiting The Breakers. Incredible resort that’s beautiful. Breakfast at one of their gorgeous restaurants was a highlight, we ate our body weight in deviled eggs. We also booked Spa appointments, though pricey, it was such a luxurious experience to get our nails done and have a nice massage.
Where should we go next? Would love to hear your recommendations in the comments…
