There are few things I make sure I take care of religiously when it comes to self care. Should I get my brows waxed more often, yes, should I throw on a face mask to try and hide my dark circles, yes… [you’re making it seem like you look like Bert] instead I focus on one thing every 1-2 weeks, it’s getting my nails done. It makes me feel happy and put together. It’s also 30 minutes to myself, in quiet, while someone else paints my nails. Feels like a princess!
Here are some of my favorite brands that I’ve used and HIGHLY recommend you try the next time you get your nails done – which should be each week so you can feel refreshed and happy too! [it’s the little things – I’m pro mani myself]
Basic
If you need to do dishes daily, then basic colors may not be the best bet for you. [I don’t do dishes because I don’t cook, but I’m basic haha] They will chip pretty quickly but they are the fastest and cheapest when you’re at the salon.
Essie – always a win with so many color options. Another plus point is that they are available at all drug stores. If you can’t go to a salon you can at least change your color weekly to match your mood!
OPI – this was the most popular brand for the longest time, although it’s options of colors are large and the names of the colors are VERY creative, I do find it to be the easiest to chip and not last as long as Essie. If your salon has OPI and nothing else, you won’t go wrong, you’ll just be back faster for a touchup.
Long-lasting
I didn’t buy into this fad for a while but then I actually did see a difference. The long lasting colors from Essie do actually last a solid week to week and a half and don’t chip as quickly. [I have to disagree I think this is a scam for the same polish in a different shaped bottle] You can find them at the drug store as well, but always remember to use a top coat to seal in the color!
Gel & More
I have a love-hate relationship with gel. The fact it lasts two weeks is the love part, the need to soak off the color and be patient while doing that is the hate part. [pick your poison, wait to dry basic or wait to remove gel…] I do find that my nails get weaker when I use gel but it’s fantastic for vacations/trips or events where you want your color to last, chip-free.
Here are some brands that do Gel and that I like:
Essie Gel Couture – no UV lamp needed so big plus
CND Shellac Polish – will need UV lamp but does have a lot of nice colors and is most popular in salons
The last type of polish which had me intrigued is the powder polish. Very fast, no UV lamps and just seems very cool to put your nail into magic color powder 🙂 [I think your toddlers are rubbing off on you] One awesome thing here is that there are many at home kits you can buy to do your own dip powder at home, and best yet, you won’t paint outside the lines! [I was right]
What is your preferred polish type? Any brands we should try?
