When your parents visit the city you live in it’s exciting, you get to show off some of the things you enjoy, and you get to play tour guide for the weekend. With NYC it’s even more fun, since there are so many things to do. Here are some ideas and tips for entertaining your parents when they visit NYC! [This is great – I will steal your plans and tell mom and dad it was all me]
Make plans and purchase tickets for anything you want to do ahead of time. This will give you a framework for their visit so you don’t run into things being sold out or unavailable. Try some of these spots out depending on your parents interests:
Museums
NYC has many museums, some are really incredible and also put you in fun parts of town you may not typically go to.
MoMA – although it’s just Midtown, the museum itself is really lovely [I’m not a big museum gal, but this one is good because it’s vibey and won’t take up your whole day]
The Met – you may not be there when the Gala takes place but this museum is something
incredible. It is HUGE and has many wings to explore, you can make a day of it if you wanted to.
The Whitney – Downtown and near the highline so you can take a nice walk before and enjoy a drink afterwards.
Attractions
May be a little touristy but well worth it:
Take in the view at The Edge and then explore Hudson Yards. There are so many restaurants and shops, it is also a nice new area of the city. Tall buildings and great for some picture opportunities.
Central Park and Bryant Park are two must see parks for obvious reasons. They are iconic landmarks in NYC, grab a cup of coffee and take a stroll – always good people watching. [highly recommend the Bryant Park Cafe to feel fancy while you’re people watching]
