Mask on, mask off

It’s that time of year – diets are off, exercise is low, and alcohol intake is high. For me, besides my waistline, the first thing to suffer is my skin. I have spent the last year perfecting my skincare routine – but all the vitamin c in the world can’t offset my holiday lifestyle. With that in mind, I spent the last few weeks getting prepared and testing out some of the most popular masks out there to give my skin a little extra TLC.

Here are my top 5:

5. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask

I originally tried this mask because I enjoy First Aid Beauty products and also it’s intended for sensitive skin – which I have [runs in the family…]. I was excited to give it a go because of all of the healing and calming properties in oatmeal. It was refreshing to apply, and my skin was very clean afterward, but this one lacked the moisturizing level I was looking for. I would recommend this one for a quick weekly refresh – but not if you are looking for a specific result.

4. SK-II Facial Treatment Mask

I was nervous about this one because I’m not typically a fan of sheet masks – but this one left me feeling renewed and glowing [this is my all time favorite, I also don’t like sheet masks but this is the ONE I have no fear in using]. My normal hesitancy for sheet masks is how they are uncomfortably oversized, your eyes, nose and month never fit in the prescribed holes, and you end up having to tilt your head up toward the ceiling for the full 20 min leaving you unable to do anything else. The SK-II sheet masks seem to be better tapered and the formula itself adhered well to my face so I could multitask – that’s a win.

3. Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

This is one of my best kept secrets when it comes to breakouts [same!!!]. I use this mask when I’m getting acne and it’s great to clean out your pores – you can literally see it working while it’s on. When I have a stubborn pimple I will even use this as a spot treatment overnight (I use the Hero Original Mighty Patch during the day as it’s less noticeable). Go grab a tube ASAP.

2. Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

This one is interesting – it’s part mask and part moisturizer. I will admit, I was confused at first as you can either keep on for 15-20 min or you can just leave on overnight. I love an overnight mask – so I opted to skip my night time routine and go to bed with the mask on. [am I the only one annoyed when your pillowcase is greasy and gross?] When I tell you I woke up with the most supple and glowing skin – I’m not exaggerating. It was so dewy and hydrated I almost didn’t even wash my face that morning. I will definitely be adding this one to my weekly routine.

1. Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial

Speaking of weekly routines, I have been using this one for a while. This is a great exfoliator and has been my weekly go-to to refresh and renew the skin. While pricey, it is worth the splurge because the effect makes you feel like you just got a mini peel and you have a fresh layer of skin ready to absorb your products. I pair this mask with the Drunk Elephant Vigin Marula Luxury Face Oil for the perfect combo. [warning, this isn’t bad for those with sensitive skin but you should try it on your hand/arm before using it all over the face… it was a little harsh in the beginning for me]

What are your go-to masks? Anything else I should give a try?
