Get that summertime glow

Quarantine really allowed me the time to explore what worked for my skin and revamp my routine. Previously, I had had the same “skincare routine” since I was 12 – wash my face with my bar soap and then slap on a little lotion and call it a day. It’s almost embarrassing to say that out loud now. [that’s the truth, she’s a true minimalist]

Since I spent a lot of time (and a little too much money) researching the best skincare brands and trying out various products, I thought I would share the routine that I finally settled on. Now, it’s going to seem like A LOT but I promise it only takes me 5-10 min morning and night, and the results are totally worth it. I have never felt so glowy and confident without makeup.

Wake me up

    • Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser
        • I have sensitive skin so this super gentle cleanser is perfect for everyday use. [agreed, I can’t live without this]
    • MeeJee Sonic Silicone Facial Cleansing Massager
        • I love this little tool! It fits perfectly in my hand and really gets deep into my pores. My skin feels incredible afterward. As I said, I have pretty sensitive skin, so I only use it 2-3 days per week.
    • CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum
        • This serum is so smooth and glides right on my skin and brightens up my face.
    • Supergoop Glow Screen
        • Now, when I said glow – this is what I meant. This sunscreen is an illuminating/iridescent shade that works for all skin tones. It doubles as a great primer for your makeup too. To top it all off it has that much needed SPF we all require everyday. [another similar option to this is the Drunk Elephant Anti-pollution Bronzing Drops]

Time for bed

    • Simple Skincare Micellar Cleansing Water
        • You wouldn’t think so, but this actually pulls so much dirt out of your pores and is a great makeup remover for… sensitive skin.
    • Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Face Scrub
        • Since I use a gentle cleanser in the morning, I use this face scrub in the evenings to wash away all the dirt and makeup from the day.
    • CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum
        • I tried quite a few different retinol serums, and (I’ll say it again) this was the only one that wasn’t too harsh on my sensitive skin. I stack a moisturizer on top of it, but honestly could probably go without. [she got me hooked on the whole line, #grateful]
    • CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
        • This is one product that I kept from my original “routine”. I swear by this cream. It is thick and luxurious and works absolute wonders for someone who has eczema like me. I’ve even passed this tip down to my niece and nephew!

Self care Sunday

    • Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari Babyfacial
        • Here come my splurges. So this mask is pretty expensive, but boy does it do the job. I have tried getting professional peels done in the past, but (one more time for the people in the back) because of my sensitive skin I just couldn’t keep up with it. This feels like a peel but without the harshness. It also lasts a long time – a little goes a long way.
    • Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil
        • Another splurge – but so worth it. This facial oil leaves my skin so hydrated and soft. I put it on before bed and wake up feeling renewed.
    • Jade Roller
        • In conjunction with the Marula oil, I use my Jade roller to give myself a quick little facial massage. I have noticed that not only does this feel so refreshing, but it also has dramatically helped with my lymphatic drainage (which I never even knew I had, let alone what it was). I feel de-puffed and ready for the week ahead. [this seems like a step which I need… but for my whole being]

This is the routine I have found works the best for my skin and is manageable to maintain. Everyone’s skin types are different, and I’m no dermatologist, but I have found that at the very least you should try to accomplish these four things: Vitamin C Serum, SPF, Retinol, and a good Moisturizer. You will have a bright, protected and ageless glow.
