For everyone who knew that was a Cheetah Girls quote – welcome to your 30s. Not sure if my sister was too cool for Cheetah Girls when it came out [never watched it… I’m too old]… there is an almost 5 year gap between us and so we have always had to get creative about what we do together because our ideas of entertainment have always been a little different.
Over the years, especially since we have both been living in NYC at the same time, we have found joy in trying new things together. Here are a few of our favorite activities to do together that keep us both excited and our bond growing.
Tea Time
There are so many perfect options for tea time around the city and they are all a vibe:
BG Restaurant is a perfect option for a classic afternoon tea with gorgeous views of the park. If anything is well suited for one sister who likes shopping and another who likes drinking… It’s high tea at a department store. [Super easy to pretend you’re in a movie]
Alice’s Tea Cup is a perfect option on the UES for tea time and we have started integrating my niece into this as well. Their sandwiches and scones are delicious and they have the most tea options. [Very cute for an outing with younger girls]
The Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel is the most iconic spot for afternoon tea. You get to enjoy the beautiful views of the hotel and it’s also a great place for a celebrity spotting which we both love. Reservations are hard to come by – so plan ahead.
Spa Day
Nothing is better than a relaxing day at the spa. The city is filled with many diverse options:
Rescue Spa is a gorgeous spa in Flatiron if you’re just looking for a quick refresh. My sister likes facials and I like massages and we can both say they have it all.
Aire Ancient Baths was my sister’s recommendation. If you want a spa day where you can actually stay together to chat and relax – AIRE has an amazing facility with all kinds of baths to try and you can truly spend all day and feel rejuvenated (and a little pruny). [very lux, very worth it.]
Juvenex Spa is a funny story for us. My sister brought me here within my first month living in NYC and told me she was treating me to a massage. I was in full shock when I walked into a hole in the wall spa in K Town and found out I was getting a full body scrub. Nothing makes you tighter as sisters than lying naked on a massage table next to each other!! However – my skin was as smooth as a baby’s bottom afterward and I have definitely been back since. [sometimes you gotta trust me]
Support the Arts
Last but not least – there is no shortage of art around here and this is one thing we can agree on:
MoMA – now, I am not a museum person, but this is a must see. Their exhibits are beautiful and you can easily walk around for hours together.
Broadway is one of my absolute favorite things about being in the city. I see shows all of the time and I have finally got my sister on board [I do have a shorter theater attention span…] but there are truly shows for everyone out there.
Concerts – whether it is seeing a pop star at MSG or a Jazz group in Central Park, music is one thing that anyone can bond over and enjoy.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your siblings? Give us some recommendations to try!
